Hello Friday! I’m headed to speak on a panel about growing a small business from nothing into something, to a community of people thinking about the ways in which rural communities can tap into the culture of maker spaces, handmade businesses and small-batch manufacturing to bring economic development to areas suffering from continual job loss and limited resources. I’m asked to speak on this subject a lot and it’s one I feel very strongly about. But, it’s also one that comes with a lot of limitations…an area I am trying to deconstruct and understand for myself as I think about how I have built Moop for the last ten years, the tradeoffs I have made, the literal physical labor to accomplish what I have and how I would like to grow and evolve over the next ten years in a healthier and more physically sustainable way. I have a lot of experience in this world but, I don’t have a lot of experience in large scale business so, I’m carving out all the spare time I can and learning it as I go. Luckily I am in a very supportive town, full of a lot of talented business brains, many of whom have been very willing to share their knowledge with me to help me successfully accomplish this next stage. In a way, I guess I’m writing a small love letter to Pittsburgh this sunny Friday. It’s a pretty good town
Hope your Friday is off to love and adventure!
xoxo,
Wendy
